Calibrate or preview position puts me in Africa or on the Equator

Calibrate or preview position puts me in Africa or on the Equator

Just tried the 1.0.20 beta, and it would appear that it's not reading the GPS logs correctly for me. Google Earth is constantly positioning me over Africa (Lat 0, Lon 40) OR directly at Lat 0, Lon 0.

I'm using an amod tracker, converting it's NMEA output to GPX using gps_babbel:

gpsbabel -t -w -r -i nmea -o gpx "$i" ~/Desktop/GPS\ Logs/GPX/"$i".gpx

If I load this file in other geotagging programs, it correctly associates over my location (Franklin, TN, USA)

Am I doing something wrong, or should I provide more information?

Thanks!

Hi Greg, What are you seeing

Hi Greg,

What are you seeing in the Logger window if you press 'Get Positions'? The same incorrect coordinates?

It would also help if you could send me the GPX file and a sample image, to 'support@' and then the site URL.

Thanks,

Ian

Nothing shown.

Done. You should have a quite long track, and a .cr2 that falls directly on the track in the support mailbox at this time.

I've got the track and the

I've got the track and the file, and will try and get a look at it tomorrow.

Further question - what timezone was the camera set to?

Ian

CDT -0500

I've not managed to work out what's going on here, but I'm still working on it...

Ian

amod converted log file also puts me at lat 0, long 40

Ian,
It looks like am seeing this same behavior with the 1.0.22 version and my data, which is captured by the same type of device and run through GPS Babel with similar options as Greg Nicholson. Let us know when you get to the bottom of this.

Millisecond time stamps...

I've tracked this down to devices that store the time in milliseconds rather than to the closest second. It's fixed in the code, and should be working in the next beta release.

Thanks,

Ian

thanks

Ian,
Thanks for the update on the fix. Since I am new to the beta program, do you send out an e-mail with a link to the next beta release? At that point I will be able to continue my testing and give more feedback.

Alex

I send out an email, but you

I send out an email, but you can also check for updates by launching one of the beta versions of GPS2Aperture as it checks for new versions on launch.

Ian

1.0.23 version

Ian,
Just to let you know I downloaded the new version and will do some testing once I see that my picture is no longer in Africa I will post another reply.
Alex

1.0.23 fixes this issue

Ian,
Just to let you know I have confirmed that my first picture no longer shows up in Africa but in Barcelona Spain where it should be, thanks for the fix.
Alex

I actually just purchased

I actually just purchased 1.0.24 and my photos end up in Africa too. I don't see any track paths on the earth but clicking on the paths icon takes me to the Atlantic on the west coast of Africa. When I click the preview button, my photo ends up in east Africa. Any ideas?

Occurs in 1.0.24 Pro

I'm having the same problem with 1.0.24 Pro. No tracks show up in GE and my photos show up in eastern africa.

Hello Dirk, Could you email
